Sacraments and Sacramentals

Masses

  • The Holy Mass or the Eucharist is the highest form of prayer of the Church. It is likewise the summit and source of Christian life (SC __). The Minor Basilica… Several Masses in the Basilica are live streamed and aired on radio for the faithful who are unable to participate physically in the Basilica.

Novenas

  • Novenas are public or private prayers lasting for nine days either to mark an important occasion, obtain particular graces, and for specific petitions. (The Modern Catholic Encyclopedia)

  • Novena to Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag – The novena to Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag precedes the celebration of the Summer and October feasts.  (attach PDF of novena)

  • Perpetual Novena in honor of St. Martin de Porres – The perpetual novena to St. Martin de Porres is held every Thursday at 10:30 AM. It is highlighted by the distribution of the ‘blessed bread’ given to the pilgrims attending the said the novena and mass. It is also distributed to selected hospitals in the locality intended especially for the sick and the poor. The veneration of the relic of St. Martin de Porres is also done after the mass. The said devotion is spearheaded by the St. Martin de Porres Guild – Manaoag Chapter under the spiritual direction of Rev. Fr. Norberto Castillo, OP. St. Martin de Porres is venerated as the patron of the poor and social justice.          (attach PDF of novena)

Holy Rosary

  • The Holy Rosary is the most popular and well-loved devotion accorded to the Blessed Virgin Mary. By praying the rosary, we do not simply foster our devotion to Mary but likewise enable ourselves to contemplate of the life of her Son, Jesus Christ. Hence, it is the epitome of the whole gospel for each mystery unfolds the life of Christ in the eyes of his Blessed Mother. The Holy Rosary is prayed every day before the 6:00 AM Mass.  (attach PDF of the prayers of the rosary)

The Liturgy of the Hours

  • The Liturgy of the Hours is the official public prayer of the Church and a source of nourishment for personal prayer. It is devised so that the whole course of the day and night will be made holy by praising God. The major hours (Lauds and Vespers) are prayed publicly at the Basilica by the Dominican community of the Priory of Our Lady of the Rosary from Mondays to Saturdays. Morning Prayer (Lauds) is integrated with the weekday Conventual Mass at 6:00 AM while the Office of Readings and Evening Prayer (Vespers) are held at 6:00 PM.

Sacrament of Reconciliation

  • The Sacrament of Reconciliation or Confession enables the faithful to obtain forgiveness rooted in God’s mercy and the remission of the sins they have committed. Through this sacrament, penitents reconcile themselves with God and the Church allowing them to live and remain in the state of grace. Confessions daily are heard at the Basilica from 7:30-8:30 AM at the Paschal Chapel.  (provide link to short examination of conscience)

Blessing of Religious Articles and Vehicles

  • Sacramentals such as rosaries, crucifixes, images, candles and other religious articles are instrumental for the sanctification of the faithful. The blessing of religious articles are done at the end of each mass. The blessing of vehicles are also done after each mass at the designated blessing area at the Basilica compound.
